Ghosts Pounding the Wall is a monumental work that pushes the technical and cultural boundaries of the craft of printing. Using the tradition of relief rubbing, Xu Bing transformed the work into a relic itself, through the act of making rubbings of an already existing cultural relic, in this case the Great Wall. As a monument to the past, Ghosts Pounding the Wall reminds viewers of the threats to the continuity of Chinese culture in modern times. -- Johnson Chang
