Artist: Jean Carzou
Date: 1977
Medium: Lithography
Dimensions: n.a.
Event: Armenian Genocide
Motif: Landscapes

An extremely prolific and well-respected artist, Jean Carzou mastered a number of mediums throughout his career, often opting to work on textured, unusual surfaces rather than plain canvas. Carzou produced dramatic works in these mediums on a variety of subjects, but his experience of the ravages of war left its mark on almost every one of his works. Carzou, part of a generation that witnessed much suffering and cruelty, was troubled throughout his life by the horrors he had seen. Carzou's work never fails to remind viewers of the tragedies that have unfolded in modern history. The surreal environments he created reveal how pain colors his view of the world.
